Stonehenge is the ceremonial site of a neolithic society.  They were probably horticulturalists.  No one in today's scientific community can say, with any accuracy, just how the neolithic peoples moved the stones into place or what the site was actually used for.  However, speculation and careful archaeological evidence suggests that it served the community as a center of government, religion, and astronomy [which would have been combined in that society].
